Old Quebec City Ranked As One Of
The Best Preserved World Heritage Sites

In its November/December 2006 edition, National Geographic Traveler magazine ranks Old Québec 6th among the best preserved UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

A panel of 419 sustainable tourism experts created a list of 94 classic destinations among the 830 listed. The destinations are recognized for their "exceptional universal value" and for the efforts made to preserve and promote them.

In first place are the Norwegian Fjords, and Québec City is several positions ahead of Venice. Québec City is the only city in North America that kept its fortifications, made up of numerous bastions, gates and defence works, still surrounding the Old City. Furthermore, the residents of Old Québec welcome tourists to share in the enjoyment of this historical district.
