- Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump (1981)
On the vast plains near Fort Macleod, Alberta, winds comb tall buffalo grass, Old Man River meanders and sacred Chief Mountain towers in the distance. Camouflaged in the cliffs of the Porcupine Hills is the five-level interpretive center of Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump. At this site, pre-historic native people used the communal hunting practice of driving buffalo over tall cliffs. The center chronicles the traditions, legends and customs of the native tribes. Throughout the summer, members of the Blackfoot Nation perform colorful traditional dances on the patio.
